Did you ride today?

It was brutal but i rode on the first day of the new year for the 35th straight year, just completing a 25 mi. jaunt around the chat piles & service roads here in N.E. Ok. It is a crisp 32' with the wind out of the nw at 15 mph making a stationary wind chill of 22'. Bike ran great after it finally warmed up & had a chance to break the back wheel loose in the chat a couple times & even got airborne over a small mound , and this being no small feat for me or the bike considering my size! I probably am the biggest KLR rider on these forums & my poor bike would surely attest to that fact I can't believe i waited so long to get one of these bikes, todays ride was not as cold as some previous rides & not as difficult as others considering i did not have to borrow one this year. Does anyone else out there make it a point to start every new year with a ride?

Wish I could have today, but instead I pulled the clutch cover and cleaned the oil screen, was a bit of debris from the goo they put the engines together with. Then I pulled the valve cover and checked my valves. All four were at the tight side, so I pulled the shims, "all four were 2.60's" and just ordered four 2.50's to replace them with. This should take care of the valves for quite some time, tho I will still check them every 12,000 miles or so. Oh, I probably got ya beat as far as heaviest rider in the forums, but I am vertically challenged, LOL. Glad someone got to ride some today. And Happy New Year.

2008 DL650 VStrom Yellow and Black
Previous ride was a 2007 KLR Black/Silver, I miss it..
Looking to get back into KLR's sometime soon.

I got to go for a short ride today as well. It felt great to get back in the saddle on my KLR after waiting on the dealer for a month to fix her!
I went completely over it yesterday and put a wrench/socket on everything they touched and then some and must say that I didn't find one loose fastener or anything missing. She is performing just as before too and running great!

I think there are a lot of heavyweights on KLR's...I go 6'5" 340lbs myself. No other DP can handle us!!! I can't imagine how much faster my bike would be with a hundred less pounds on it as its plenty fast now with me plus gear on it.

Hope everyone here has a great '08 full of safe, enjoyable riding!!!

Thanks,
Todd

Well five of us met at the Hardee's today in Lafayette, TN at 9:00AM. Two from Scottsville, KY, one from Portland, TN, one from Smyrna, Tn, and one from Clarksville, TN. The first bank we passed around 8:15 showed 29 degrees, the last one we passed around 1:30 showed 32 degrees. the wind was rough here as well. The bike would act like it wanted to change lanes when that is NOT what you wanted it to do. We rode to a firetower in Standing Stone State Park outside of Celina, TN. This year we found the gate locked so we headed back to Celina where two riders headed back to the house. The remaining three rode over into Monroe, Co. KY, and rode the ferry on 214 (I think that's the number). Headed back to Scottsville, stopped at the shop where Doyle works, so Mike could warm up for his ride back to Clarksville. All together I logged in around 170 miles today. Had a good ride with some great folks, and look forward to the day we get to do it again.

I ride about 360 days a year.

Every now and again I drive my truck to pick up something heavy or to help out a buddy...I oughta sell the truck, I'm sure the neighbors are tired of looking at it.

Man, at 6'4" and 240, I'm plumb dainty 'round here.

I actually rode "accidently" today. Been looking for a bike for my wife and rode a "02 Blast today. Will probaly buy it if we can work out some title problems.

I'd like something more KLR'ish for her, but she's petite and needs 28" or under seat height. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I too, got to ride today. A leisurely 40 miles in 3 hours on the trails west of town. Bike took a short nap once but all else went well.

6'3" & 319. My cardiologist is pissed.

Happy New Year.

East TN Ride

I rode both the KLR and Vstrom today. A ritual for me is the Jan 1st ride. It has been much nicer the last couple of years. I would love to ride to work tomorrow but they are calling for snow here. I know it wont happen, never does when they say it will, but i have to ride down I-140 and some of the idiots i share the road with cant drive when it is sunny and nice let alone with any issues on the road.
