Preload Adjuster Problem

I have a '08 with only 3,500 miles on it and I am the second owner. I also have a '05 KLR and know how the preload adjuster works....problem is, when I attempted to adjust the '08 preload, the adjuster bolt just never seems to "lock" into the correct position (trying for setting #5) and continues to just spin with minor clicking sound. It appears, the bolt has backed out of whatever internal connection sets the preload. I rode the bike and it seems a little soft but, not bad. Another problem is I am leaving next Wednesday night for a trip out west (trailering bike so it will not be loaded down except for my big @$$) and would really like to get this fixed prior to leaving....unless a new shock has to be installed (which would not be a bad thing if I wasn't under a time constraint!). Tell me folks, am I screwed or can it be repaired in a pinch? Thanks to all for any input!

This was recently discussed in this thread:

The likely culprit is seems relatively easy to fix.

Sure. What is your location? It would be great if you can plug in some general location info in your member profile.
