Has anyone tried a smaller bore master cylinder on Gen2?
I put a 10 mm 250 Ninja master onto my Gen1 (has braided brake hose) and am pleased with the improvement. Better lever shape, adjustable lever, more apply pressure and better feel.
Came complete with lever, reservoir, brake light switch & banjo bolt. Simple bolt on.
I'm wondering if the 10 mm master cylinder (stock KLR650 is 12 mm) displaces enough fluid for the Gen2 front caliper?
We will be doing a conversion of my Gen1 (260 mm rotor) to a Gen2 (280 mm) front rotor soon, in combination with a Suzuki dual piston front caliper so will see how the Ninja master handles that. I might have to go back to the stock master because of fluid displacement requirements but if the Ninja master works with the combination, the brake should be very good.
A machinist friend measured the mounting and rotor when we had a Gen2 front wheel (off another bike) on for trial so it looks like the Suzuki caliper can be fitted back far enough to match the rotor, once an adapter plate is made.
I was looking for a way to improve the front brake while solving an apparently insolvable technical issue. I'm really cheap.
If the front rotor and caliper will do the job, the combination will be about $70.00 as opposed to the 320 mm's 3X that + then the need for another adapter and Suzuki caliper.
