Value of Kawasaki Extended Warranty

I'm looking at a used 2007 KLR 650. The current owner purchased an extended warranty, which is good until December 2011.

How much value should I mentally allow for the warranty, when comparing this deal to other similar bikes without the extension? What does the extended warranty sell for at the dealership?

thanks,

Marty

Warranties vary from company to company. There is usually a $100 deductible , but read the contract thoroughly. They go from 300 -500 or more depending on the length. Paulo. The 2007 sounds like a solid bike but at what price?

He's asking $4000 for the 2007. It has 1200 miles, looks new, and was purchased in December 2006. Purchase date would mean original 12-month warranty is expired, so all that remains is the extended warranty until 12/2011. There are no accessories. Good deal, bad deal, needs negotiation?

For $4k and 1200 miles It's a fair deal and not a great deal but that warranty makes up for the fair price. Is color important to you? I REALLY favor the KAWASAKI green 2006 model but you may not find the same warranty offer. Ask a dealer can you buy an aftermarket warranty for a used bike you bring them. If color isn't really important and your finances are not a factor. I would get it but color is important to me. I even bought a year older Hayabusa due to color preference. Either way 4 to 5 grand for MANY SMILES for years to come is worth every penny to me. If you can squeeze a hundred or two off, great. Show him $3800 in cash and he may bite. My friend taught me a trick. Tell him $3800 and if he says no, give him your cell # and walk away. He'll think it over and call you back. The question is, HOW BAD DO YOU WANT IT? MAKE SURE the warranty is transferable to you.

The warranties are nice, but these bikes are simple and there really isn't much on them that you could not fix or take care of. They have been around for 20 years and pretty much all the bugs except the doohickey are gone. I love my 07, and haven't looked back since getting it. Good luck on your decision and hope to hear a report about you riding it home.. Oh I did NOT purchase the extended warranty. I am one of those weird guys that prefers to know something has been done right, therefore, I do it myself.

Previous ride was a 2007 KLR Black/Silver, I miss it..
Looking to get back into KLR's sometime soon.

I never buy extended warranties for anything and place no value on them. My thinking is if a product doesn't last beyond the standard warranty I don't want it and I won't buy another from that manufacturer. Extended warranties are for the dealers. Their cut on selling it to you is huge. My son had an extended warranty on a Honda car. Took it in to have a o-ring seal replaced on the motor and it still cost him $300. we could have done it ourselves for a lot less.
