need to know what to do

Hi,

New here, from Australia and am thinking about a 2000 KLR 650. I just wanted to know if $2500 was a good price for a 2000 klr with about 70000 km's on the clock ??

the other bike i was looking at is a 2000 WR 400f with about 20000 km's on the clock, they want $3500 for it

what would be a better bike ?? mainly commuting and some weekend dirt trips

any help would be great as this is my first bike

Since the Oz dollar is pretty close to the USD, I'd say that both prices are too high for bikes with that amount of km's on the clock.

Of the two, the WR would be a better $$$ deal, considering value and km's, but the WR will be much more dirt oriented than the KLR, and might not be what you're after as far as commuting..

If it were me, I'd keep shopping. A better deal will come about. What does the new '08 KLR650 sell for in Oz?

Oh, and if you can, buy two.. Looks like I'm headed to Southern Oz in the near future.. Going to be working near Morwell, Victoria. I was there almost 10 years ago for work, and I just missed the ISDE by a month that time.. It's for work again, though..

yeah the klr has done mainly highway miles and has been service and looked after very very well, so i don't think i am getting a dud. i only have $3000 aud to spend and this has been the best thing that has come along so far and i need a bike asap to get to work and for a 700km tour me and some mates are doing soon

not sure what the new klrs go for down here something around the $8000-$10000 i think! haven't looked cause if i bought a new bike it would be a honda xr650.

Gotcha.. I know bikes are more expensive there, across the board, so I'm sure resale value is equally high.
If you know the service life and can trust it, (and only have so much to spend) the KLR might be a good choice.. But at 45,000 miles (70K km) it's bound to start being an issue with some of the cheaper items starting to break or wear out..

Like I said, if you have the opportunity, I'd shop around a bit more..

Wait for a better deal, lower miles. I waited close to 3 months to find my Hayabusa with only 900 miles. Patience is a virtue. Unless you need a mode of transportation ASAP, then do what you have to do. But I would wait and or search harder.

Just wanted to add that 08 KLR's sell for $8000 oz dollars at the moment, what are they selling for in the USA ?

They can range anywhere from about $4700 to $5700 depending on color and location.
