KLR Come Monday

After hearing several friends talk about their KLR, and reading numerous articles, I will pick up my KLR Monday after I return home from my trip to another part of the country.

I researched and found several KLR for sale. One was an 04 with 10k miles and loaded with tons of after market gear. But I was slow on the finger and it sold out from under me. The one I purchased is an 07 and has 2,700 miles, but no after market items.

I was wondering, what do you recommend I change first? I plan to ride off rode as well as cross country trips. I have a ZX-10 that I ride on the rode course, but I realize this is a whole new ballgame. Plus, I'm not as young as I use to be, though I stay in pretty good shape.

I'd appreciate your suggestions in helping me get my bike set up.

Welcome aboard Jerry.....Got an 07 myself. You are going to love it. As for first things to do, Definately do the Doohickey if it has not already been done.

Here is a link to show how it is done and what is needed:

If you plan on some offroad, I would definately put some progressive springs in the front. You will find the stock ones are pretty weak and will nose dive with you while braking. Other than that, everything else is added to make it what you want. Luggage, crash bars, nerf bars, tires, etc etc.

The link I gave you above has many mods that are recommended for the KLR. Look them over and if you have any questions feel free to ask. Oh one other mod that is on that link you should do, is the Carb T Mod. Keeps the bike from dying during water crossings and heavy rain. Very easy and cheap.

Looking to get back into KLR's sometime soon.

Welcome, coming off a sport bike, you'll notice the stock front brakes is kind of weak. Swap the rubber hose with a stainless one and you will be glad that you did. Modify the klr to your needs.

Bike Setup

Hey thanks. I appreciate all the suggestions. I'm in New Mexico now and all I'm thinking about is getting back to Missouri and picking up my bike.

Is there any places you recommend to purchase the best deals and equipment for aftermarket items?
