Time for the chin curtain, breath box & double shield

About to head off for a ride but think it's time to insert the chin curtain, breath box and heated face plate into my HJC. Who uses this stuff for the cooler weather?

FWIW, the heated, double layer face plate works well but the heated portion is absolutely useless. Don't spend the extra for the heat element because, according to my experiments, the heat element does absolutely zip for double the price.

I use heated socks and a heated jacket liner. Cover that with insulated gear. Did get cold ankles until I found gaiters. Now even my ankles are warm.

Had to look that up to make sure it was real. I live in SoCal.

Cool Breeze

I took the Road Glide to an afternoon meeting at work today. We have been having some exceptionally nice weather for this time of year. The meeting ran long and I ended up riding the 25 miles home after sundown. I bought a set of knock off lower fairings on ebay in late summer, and I've got to say I was comfortable in jeans at 35 degrees! I know it's not KLR related but between those and a good wind shield I could go an hour or two as long as the roads aren't slick! My AFX helmet came with a wind guard but it rubbed my nose raw in 30 seconds so I trashed it. Seems like a good idea though!

Slick roads are certainly an issue here also. Great to see that mentioned as too often someone who doesn't ride during this time of year will haul out the bike and have an accident. Leaves are a big risk in this area for quite a lot of the late fall and winter. One has not only the concern of running onto a batch of leaves on the road but simply a slime of leaf residue can be like grease. A couple of days ago, the back end went out twice for no apparent reason and the rear locked up a couple of times during light braking. Just the time of year. Also kind of fun to imagine that one is back on the MX bike rattling the trails. ;-)

I know what you mean about the rotten leaves, we get a of pine needles in this area. I would like to get the KLR out again this season but I think all the dirt roads will still have icy spots in the shady patches. Time to start thinking about next year
