Arrow 2008 KLR vs. 2007 BMW R1200GS

I own a 2007 BMW R1200GS and love the bike. But, believe it or not, I am considering selling it and getting the '08 KLR due to fuel prices, the desire to do more off-road and simply to put a little money back in my pocket. The problem I have is, reliability. In 11 months I have put on almost 25,000 miles on the Beemer. This is about how much I will put on any bike in a given year. Will the KLR be able to handle this much mileage, or will I be looking at a new bike every other year? Also, my GS puts out 600w of power as opposed to 36w. This will be difficult to get used to, considering I want heated hand grips, vest and additional lights. Any feedback is welcome.

Welcome Keith. I think you will definitely need to upgrade the stator (easy job). google Klrfaq and you will read all that their is available to upgrade a klr to what you need it to do. If HP is what you need, Schnitz racing makes a 705 kit for the klr650 but your gas mileage will suffer. There are many companies that cater to upgrading the klr. Ask us what you need and we'll try to suggest the best upgrades.

94 KLR,tank guards,sw motech centerstand,Doo done, african switch, mirror dampners, powerpegz, twisted throttle fuses, aluminum skidplate, Bigcee shark disc and jug holder and subframe upgrade, progrip grips, maier handguards/brushguards, avon distanzias, fmf q4 exhaust, headlight guard, handlebar risers, billet rear brake reservoir bracket and guard, dual star shifter, garmin 2820 gps, tmod, disc cover, pcv mod, corbin flat
