klr exhaust

im new to the bike world and i just bought a new 08 klr 650 i have 600 miles on it. the other morning i started the bike and it idled for about 2 to 4 min. and i saw that the exaust was glowing red from the head and around the bend. i called the dealer and no answer to why any suggestions.

I have read numerous accounts on other sites too, stating the exact same situation you just had with all years of KLR's and other bikes. These bikes aren't exactly designed to just sit and idle. It seems to be a norm and will cool down and be fine once you hit the road.

thank i was worried that something was already wrong. also does changing the exaust with a new slip really change much and do you have to rejet

Mine Got Hot!

I've had my 08 since last September, just hit 2000 miles. I was waiting (engine at idle) at a drive through of a bank and noticed the bike heating up more than usual. Not quite over-heating but hotter than Ive ever noticed before. As soon as I moved, the thermostat went to normal, just above the C.
