KRL or Versys 1st bike

I have been out of riding for about 20 years. (Most of my riding experience was on a 175 yahama enduro) Have just finished the MSF course and looking to buy bike. I will be riding mostly street some gravel and little hard dirt. I really like the versys but every one says you will drop your bike at least couple of time the first year. Best price I have found on Versys is $6200 where as I can get an 07 KLR with low miles for $3800. (A few scratchs included) Is the KLR a good 1st bike, I am 6 ft 2 in 195 lb so height of bike is no issue.

For the prize you can't beat the KLR. It's not perfect but nothing is. The KLR can do alittle bit of everything. I ride my 06 KLR mostly on the street. I got 22,000 on it and no problems. I'd go with the KLR.

Both are great bikes, but the KLR is much better of the two for a first bike especially since you are 6'2", you'll find you fit it much better and will be much more comfortable. The KLR is heavy, but it is balanced well. The Versys is much more oriented for road and quick into town jaunts, even tho it is touted as an adventure/tourer bike, I don't think it fits the Dual mode the KLR fits for gravel, dirt and road. Plus the KLR has been around since 1987 and parts are available everywhere along with a huge following with after market stuff to design the bike to fit your lifestyle and type of riding. Keep us posted on what you end up with. I am glad to see you took the MSF course.

Previous ride was a 2007 KLR Black/Silver, I miss it..
Looking to get back into KLR's sometime soon.

I'm 6' 2" and weigh 220lbs and have been riding my KLR since 1989. This is the most comfortable bike I've ever ridden. To be fair, I've never ridden a Versys.
