Ironbutt on a KLR

I've done several ironbutt rides on my voyager, and want to know who has done one on a klr, I have the Ironbutt plate back on the voyager, I'm going to put one on the klr, but feel that I need to do a ride on it for it earn it, so we'll see how it goes.

rodneyw71,
There are a couple of You-tube videos of Ninja 250 Iron Butt finishers!
If they can do it, a KLR650 can do it! The question is, can you do it?

I personally have done 748 miles on a KLR650 in about 15 hours including, coffee, donuts, fuel, potty, coffee, donuts, fuel, potty! Wendover, UT to Monterey, CA in April 1988. First year return of USGP races!! Nevada desert, does NOT warm-up in April.

I have an acquaintance/customer, who claims 1400 miles, with a 70 pound Labrador dog, in one day. He was traveling, Alaska to Florida! I said "Jeff, you Win! No Contest!"

I'm going to try when the break in period is done, want to get a couple thousand miles on it before I blast it down the interstate, I love my bead rider seat that I have on the voyager, gonna put one on the klr. I will get it all on video.

Riding partner, 60,000 + miles on his '08, has done it; high rate-of-speed, west Texas/NM/AZ. Has trick seat; "Day-Long," or something like that. 685, etc.

Another friend just completed a 45,000-mile year-long ride of "the Americas," Key West to Prudhoe Bay, AK, to Tierra del Fuego, South America, to Bogota, Colombia; flew from there (with his Generation 2 suspended and 685ed Generation 2) to FL . . . STOCK saddle (doesn't bother him; a wiry, small-framed dude).

So . . . these examples suggest a KLR650 has the legs to go fast-and-long, or just plain long, if riders harbor those ambitions. Optimum vehicle for either option? Maybe not, "optimum," but . . . can do!

The bike "can do it" if you take proper care of it! Check and add engine oil as needed! I am trying to reduce That Concern!

The question is "can You Physically do IT?"! That is what the Iron Butt Challenge is all about! The rider, not the bike.

Well I'm going to give it a shot, I got a ironbutt license plate back for it, the voyager earned it, the klr has to earn the plate lol I'll have a quart of oil on hand, I got a taller windshield for it, I'll get the break in and do it. I'll post pics when I do it.

rodneyw71,
GO FOR IT!
Make us all Proud, to ride the same bike as yourself.
Avon 'Gripster' rear tires can go 8500-11,000 miles. Kinda', in-consistent!
Avon 'Gripster' front tires, up to 16,000 miles, again, kinda', inconsistent!

How else can I help in the middle of Wyoming?

Sure, it's doable. I did a SS1000 (1000 miles in 24 hours) back in the day on this bike:

And more recently a combined SS1000 and BB1500 (1500 miles in 36 hours) on this bike:

Ron

Opinions are my own. Everything I describe is very likely wrong. Use at your own risk.

Ranger Ron,
SS1000, Saddle-Sore 1000, correct?
BB1500, Butt-Burner 1500???. On a KLX250? With Cruise-Control!
Question, All Asphalt? Or part dirt?

But, it is still not an "Iron-Butt" ride, minimum of 11,000 miles in 11 days!
Or am I miss-understanding things?

The ironbutt rally is 11k miles in 11 days, ss1000 and bb 1500 are just Ironbutt rides that anybody can do.
