Starting issue solved?

A ways back, my bike started getting hard to start. I worried it was the valves, but decided to start easy. New plug. Better gas. Fuel filter (thanks Cabrito!). It got a little better, but it was still a gamble. Either started normal(ish) or would crank and crank and backfire (usually in the parking garage at work, they love me ... LOUD).

A week or so ago, went to go home and crank, crank, crank BANG. About 5 times. Me, finally thinking, flipped the sidestand up. Started right up. Bypassed the safety (thanks Kevin!) and it has started PERFECTLY (like new) every time since.

Can the safety gizmo go bad gradually? Wires? Am I tripping? I thought it went BAD immediately if it went, not gradually. If I am not tripping, and your bike starts weird and you can't figure out why, try starting it with the stand up?

I'm used to older bikes, so the 'safety' feature never did shit for me anyway. I don't stop the engine by putting down the stand or anything. Now, I really wish I'd yanked it the day I bought it.

Smart folks, any thoughts?

Intermittent contact, vibration make it close??

Lockjaw,
That is an odd one. But electricity is very much a 'mystery' to me as is.
I'm not much help, I usually stumble thru just like you did!
Glad that you thought of the possibility/probability and passed the new found knowledge along!

Just have to say, There was NO "Forum Jump" box at the bottom of thread, until I 'logged-in'! My system or the forums problem? I do not know! It is 'Electricity' after all!

Awesome. I'm glad I'm not the only one confused. Keep me posted. If it did really go bad gradually, this is something everyone should know.

And, since I now know that bypassing it is SUPER easy, well, it never did anything for me anyway. Except possibly drive me crazy for a while because I was stressing my bike wouldn't start after work without someone calling in a drive by. :banghead:
