does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this?

Make sure the airfilter is clean and not clogged up or saturated with oil.

Have the valves been checked and/or adjusted?

Yep, tight valves will kill some power.. Didn't think of that.

Ummmmm, depending on what bike you came from it may seem rather gutlessssssss. On the other hand you may want to check the items listed above, and maybe check what counter sprocket it has. Mine with a 16 tooth is ho hum but with a 15 tooth does wonders for the heavy fisted.

Lacking in Power

Good point Les, "depending on what bike you came from"

I went from a 1000cc Concorse to a KLR and I thought there was something wrong with the power as well.

The guys have mentioned pretty well everything you can do to check it out....air box, valves..... etc.

Thanks everyone, thats given me a few ideas. I did come from a sports bike so that might have a bit to do with it. However, the KLR tops out at 65mph so there is definately something wrong. think i'll start with the air filter.

Thanks again
Mark

I have heard of people using a bicycle inner tube repair patch to fix the diaphragm if you can't find any other alternative.
