Just got back

My first longer ride on my KLR. I rode 152 miles round trip. Rode to work (2nd store I sometimes work at). Nice, warm sunny day. Some odd wind gusts and some expected from Semi trucks. No problem, I just rode with a loose grip on the bars.
When I came back it was starting to rain and getting dark. I was somewhat apprehensive as I had never rode in the rain before. It didn't seem too bad, I took it easy and slowed a bit more in the curves.
I noticed it was more difficult to see when cars passed me in the opposite lane/direction due to the drops on my visor. I think some Rain X might help.
Over all a good learning experience and lots of fun.

Try some furniture polish on the visor also .... You will find if you turn your head one way then the other, the wind stream should roll most of the rain drops away. I still usually end up having to use my gloves to clear the visor. You did exactly right for rain riding. "SLOW DOWN". especially in curves.

Looking to get back into KLR's sometime soon.

I also carry road riding style gloves that have little wipers sewn in the sides of the index fingers. That works much better than smearing the water with the gloves too.

I thought I felt some slight slipping of the rear tire while under power as I rode over the tar patches in the road. Furniture polish, will give it a try thanks. The road gloves with a wiper sounds good.
I noticed a lot of bugs splatted on my visor as well .

"Lemon Pledge" is what I use and it really makes the color pop out.

Tar Snakes. I used to fight them though havelearned to let the motorcycle deal with them. As long as they are the ones that repair cracks: Motorcycles rarely crash on their own accord. If there are many of them I will remove my left hand.

Distance. Ride until your butt hurts then find your way home.

Water. Don't forget to stay hydrated while riding on or off road.
