new to klr

Hey guys, just bought my first klr 650. Its a 2005 with 18000 miles on it. 1700 bucks! Needs a couple odds n ends like grips and tires, but its missing the gaurds that go over the radiator from the gas tank. I have never onwned a dirt bike or enduro before so i am lost as to where to get them or what they are technically called to even search more effectively for them. The guy i bought it from had the plastcics plasti dipped grey and black. Any help would be much appreciated!

Hello and welcome to the forum!
Sounds like you got a great deal on your KLR. If your just starting out with dual sports and KLR's in particular the forums are a great place to search up info, though it can be quiet at times so you might not get an answer to questions right away. I would highly recommend scooping a repair manual, they are invaluable if you are going to be doing your own maintenance on the bike.

Hey, yea im an auto mechanic by trade but never did any work on my motorcycles myself. I am going ro start put on my klr when the time comes. Thanks for the welcome! I found a set of radiator shrouds off of a 2007 klr for 140 bucks. Did i pay too much? Will it fit? Everything i have read suggests the body is identical from 1987 to 2007 hence it should fit. I hope so otherwise back on ebay they go

They will fit perfectly! Provided other things aren't bent. 'hint, hint'
Check that the cooling fan can be turned/Spun by a finger tip!
Mount the LH shroud, spin again.
If the radiator and coolant reservoir shrouds don't fit, it is because the other parts are bent! Not de-formation of the shrouds.

Yup, they'll fit no problem. Just the 2008 and up models have the different plastics (much more brittle, not a good thing!).

Price is kind of subjective, that seems a little high to me, but I've never priced out gen 1 bodywork. If they are in great shape, your golden. Some people don't even bother with the side panels and shrouds but personally I think the bikes look kind of "half assembled" without them.

Thanks for all the help guys this seems like a real great place. I am anxiously awaiting them from ebay, and will throw them on. I will definitely check for the fan to spin thanks for the tip. I saw factory parts 197$ for one shroud so i think i got a great price for the two of them. My buke is black so i will hit them with some paint and throw them on

If you're talking about the plastics, I bought mine from 2WheelPros.com $37.99 each.

Part Number 49089-1073-260 Left
Part Number 49089-1074-260 Right

They come in Red and Green (?) I believe. You'd have to call and ask for any other specific color. I just ordered red since I plan on painting them anyhow.

Edit: Also note these are not in stock no matter what they tell you. I waited 10 days for mine to show up from California. They most likely ordered them and then shipped them to me right after they came in.
