Faded plastics? Any hope?

Hello all! I have a green/silver 2001 KLR650. The previous owner used it as his daily drive and parked it at work out in the sun ever day. The plastics are badly faded. Is there any way to restore the color or do I have to buy new plastics? The tank is the only part on the bike that looks good. I welcome any suggestions/ideas. How much do all new plastics run? Around $350?

Light waxing or plastic polish should shine it up nicely. You may have to re apply once in a while though to keep up the new look.

Where is the best place to buy new plastics? I tried WD40, Pledge, and even plastic polish. All it did was make faded plastic look nice and shiny. I guess I need to go new or used. Other than Ebay is there another good place to find bodywork?

Take some sand paper to them, then use some truck bed liner paint. Do some searching and you'll find several bikes that people have used it on.

The only other place I know of to order plastic, is from of course Kawasaki and or bikebandit.com. Bikebandit is usually same price as Kawasaki plus shipping, where as if ordered from dealer, you only pay tax, not shipping.

Looking to get back into KLR's sometime soon.

Had not thought about bedliner. I've used that on several things - bumpers, brushguards, roll panels, etc. Good idea.

Or get some of the Crylon plastic paint in O.D. or matte black.. Always looks good, and you'll have a "sort" of one of a kind bike..

Well,

I am taking your advice. I have all of the plastics sanded down and parts taped off. I am ready to paint, but am not sure what color to go with. I am not painting the tank because it is in good shape with a nice clean clear coat still. So that leaves me with all the plastics. Granted the tank is silver with the green/brown/black KLR factory decal. So whatever color I paint the plastics should match the tank. Any ideas? I have a green 01 KLR650.
