Look like a good deal?

I'm looking to buy a KLR for my first bike and found this one on craigslist. a 2005 with 3000 miles, and topcase. Asking $3795. What do you guys think?

Depends on actual condition and maintanence history. For here, that would be kind of the top of the range, but not unreasonable if everything else is good. And it's red.

cool deal, he says in the ad its been garage kept and very well maintained with no drops, but I have not looked at the bike in person yet. i have also found a 2007 with 1400 miles for $4000 which is what I am leaning towards, only problem is it's blue, I really dig the red as well.

Check them both out and buy the one you want. A couple of years and a couple of k miles is not that big a deal on these bikes.

Sounds good, thanks for the info BIGIRON. How long should I expect the engine to last before a rebuild. and what would a rebuild cost roughly?

Anecdotal reports of over 50,000 for well maintained engines are not uncommon. Depends, like anything else, on how well they're treated. Parts may break, but a liquid cooled, 4cycle single is not much prone to wear.

I always look on e-bay to find the "value" of almost anything. I do an advanced search and look and ended auctions. If an item is selling for $100 on e-bay and the "blue book says $500 I go by e-bay.

I have sold several bikes for a lot more than "kelly BB, or edmonds has them valued at, and then I have bought several things below BB because of e-bay.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life.

That's for sure.. I know of a few at 30K and running fine.. I've got 16K on mine and Double A and I are riding to breakfast tomorrow and he's over 18K on his.. Both run like a top..

Change oil, don't beat em' to death, and they'll treat you well..
