Rubber rot on 08???!!!!

I have about 2K miles on my 08. I keep it covered. Granted, I do live by the bay. Yesterday I noticed that the "accordion" rubber cover for the clutch cable is already cracking and rotting. Anyone else had this issue? Seems a little premature doesn't it?

Must be from the same rubber they used for the turn signal stalks. Seems like a lot of the 08 turn signals are falling apart prematurely..

Thanks DX. I haven't noticed any wear on the turn signals...I've been looking out for it. Is the rubber over the clutch cable worth worrying about? I don't ride off road.

Yep I got it also on the windshiels washers. Dealer is contacting Kawa for replacements. Had the left rear signal self eject to.

You would probably be fine without the cover, but I doubt they cost very much, I kinda like keeping as many elements out of the cable as possible. But if you keep it lubed quite well you should be good to go. Yeah my buddies 08 isn't having the turn signal problem either. It seems to be a hit and miss thing just like the issue with starting for some of them.

Thanks for the feedback. Much obliged. Just got my old bike (73 Honda cb450) back from the shop yesterday. Holy crap, what a difference 35 years makes. Plus I think the Honda shrunk.

I'll keep watching the rubber and post any other things I find (hopefully nothing!)

Cheers.

bad rubber

My windshield rubber completly self destructed. the rest of the rubber appears fine. I was talking to another KLR owner he stated that Kawi had large batch of bad rubber and that Kawi is fixing the problem for klr owners. I dont know if its true just telling what I was told.
