I use the Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5w-40 oil and I change it and the filter between 1500 and 2000 miles.

This is how I do it and other people will tell you their way is good too. Whatever oil you use you should at least change it between 1500 and 2000 miles.

I hope this helped.

I don't use synthetic. I use Shell Rotella T 15w-40. My oil & filter get changed every 3,000 miles. The main thing is to use a good oil & filter and change it on a reguler basis. Do what you feel is best for you. Remember smile and be happy.

oldx I know you should do what you feel is best, but why so short a time frame between oil & fliter changes?

What filters do you consider "good"? Not trying to be a smart ass, but are the factory Kawasaki filters adequate? The only other ones easily availiable to me are Fram, I do not run a Fram filter in anything.

I run Emgo filters, which have been rated as good as stock.. They're 2 bucks each from Bike Bandit, if you purchase in bulk and have (and use) your AMA discount. I think I bought 25 of them last time.. I know a lot of KLR riders and I just charge $2 or trade for beer.

I use 0w40 amsoil synthetic and a fram filter. I change ever 2500. The oil is still pretty clean though. I do a lot of interstate driving so I turn pretty high rpm's or I might go longer. Fram filters stack up with anyones. It's just a paper cartridge. I have never seen one with any signs of failure.

Wix 24951. Side by side to the OEM filter there is a notable difference in quality.....more pleats, softer / larger rubber seals and the Wix come with a new cover gasket. Just better fit & finish and locally available!

Gray-haired riders donít get that way from pure luck.
