stupid question

Do you guys turn off your gas valve after each ride, or do you just leave it on? (petcock I think) A friend told me that was a waste of time.

There are no stupid questions. I leave my gas on all the time, unless I am working on my bike. My bike has very little "down time".

Take care,

Man, I've asked a lot stupider questions than that. I have a 73 CB450 and I always turn the gas off. With the KLR I always leave it on...unless I was going to let it sit more than a few days...which never really happens.

Only problem is that when I ride the Honda sometimes it takes me a few minutes of financial panic to realize why the bike won't start.

I always turn my gas off out of years of habit, and I don't trust the vacuum petcocks. The diaphragm eventually will go bad.

I have an 07 KLR and discovered that it has an auto shut off system on the "tank tap" which effectively stops the flow of fuel if the engine is not running (vacuum from the carb operates the auto valve), so no need to shut off in my thought, also no chance of that panic setting in as your motor falters mid intersection!!!!!!!!
