LED Lighting ?

I am thinking of converting most or all of my bulbs to LED on a gen 2 does anyone know of or have a list of all the correct part # LED's it would take to do this ? What have you done or tried, brightness, color etc. Is it worth the effort? What do you prefer any and all ideas welcome.

I just did this to my gen 1 and saved 5+ amps (60+watts) to put towards heated gear for this winter.

If you need the amps for other things, then yes. If you are just doing it so you have LED's, then no.

Tom and several other posters gave me a lot of this information.......

I bought the indicator (turn signal lights) from my local auto parts store so that I could keep the same signal bodies (1156 bulb). I bought the new relay for the turn signals from superbrighteds.com (I had to wire this into the harness as the plugs are different, but it was easy as soon as I found which was the harness postive lead):
https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...asher/787/842/

These are the ones I used for the dash lights:

These are the ones I used for the turn signal and neutral indicators:
https://www.superbrightleds.com/cat/...r,24,197,9048:

This is what I used to replace the H4 headlight bulb (I think gen 2 is the H7):

When you do the LED turn signals, you have to change out the relay and turn indicator lamp to LED. If you get polaized #24 LED for the turn signals, than you will need to put diodes in place or your turn signals will not work properly (I used a small bridge rectifier from Radio Shack). The cool thing is that I found out if you short out the indicator light wires, then when you hit either turn signal with the switch, the turn signals go into hazard warning mode (all 4 blink at once). So I installed a small auxilliary switch which switches the turn signal mode from signal to hazard.

I also changed out the brake light 1157 bulb to an LED one from superbrightleds, but I'm not very happy with the intensity (too dim), so I'm probably going to install one of these:
KLR650

There are several different makers of the brake light conversion, so I'm not sure if I'll go with Idabiker's or not.

Anyway, that is what I did. It was easy and I'm happy with the results.

Nothing wrong with doing them all but you can save 90% of the power and expend only 10% of the effort by just swapping the headlight and taillight. I use Idabiker's units front and back.

2 cents,
Dave

Definitely true Dave. And a great point.

I'm an engineer, so if I can't tinker, then I go nuts. That's really why I went all in.

LOL, it's all good. Me; I HATE electrical.....rather rebuild the suspension, swap wheel bearings and change a few tires than mess with that voodoo so I concluded that I could reap the vast majority of the benefits of LED's without any of the pain if I limited the upgrade to the two largest offenders.

If I wasn't as clueless, I'd probably have done the same thing as you 'cause I certainly get the need to tinker thing!

Cheers,
Dave
