7.5K service

just finished doing the 7500 mile service on my klr650. i really do love this bike for its ease of maintenance and lack of issues, especially considering how many miles it's traveled through the mud, sand, heat and water of southwest florida forest trails.

one interesting note: a bath of wd40 in a bowl immediately cleaned up the air filter like new.

so after 16 months of ownership from brand new, i am still convinced this kawasaki is one of the most versatile, reliable, and enjoyable bikes ive owned in 40 years of riding!

sshbsn, Ok Great to hear.

So then I hope the air filter got a soap and water bath and rinsed twice, thoroughly dried. Then Thoroughly OILED, thru and thru, yes?

That made me laugh. He was just stressing the importance of making sure the filter was cleaned and lubed correctly. Apparently improper air filter maintenance happens all too often on these bikes. I just got a uni filter. The package says use uni oil which is like "oil", meanwhile I'm glancing at the Maxima can of sticky/tacky oil I have on my shelf and was left scratching my head....I'm sure my Uni is gonna be sticky. Heck, there's youtube videos I've seen where people clean the foam filter, then I'm left wondering if they ever oiled it. All good, glad your loving your ride.

You are on a great track.

After all the break in services like pearly oil, chain and cables tugged on and adjusted
over the 7.5k, you are literally ready for a lifetime of great service from this machine.

It's as simple as checking over exposed fasteners, yes, an oily filter, tire pressures, clean-ish
engine oil, etc.

You've already stated how stoopid easy these things are to properly maintain. Have fun, brother
of the dust and wind.

Sorry sshbsn,
But you made it about air filter maintenance by Not Explaining to the newer / younger / less experienced owner that a "foam air filter Must Be Thoroughly OILED After Cleaning"!

I've seen too many engines destroyed and read of to many destroyed KLR engines to leave your comment uncontested!
WD-40 by itself wouldn't be good enough for 10 miles. Too Dry! Too Thin!
