Is this what surging feels like?

A few weeks ago I backed the idle down to 1300. It had been running 1600. Bike has just less than 4K miles on it. Noticed some backfiring on decel which had never happened biggee...I am planning on doing the 22 center one of these days.

On sunday I changed the oil. Yesterday on the ride home I upshifted (to third I think) and right after re-engaging it did surge a little. Felt like the gears hadn't set right and then they slipped in. Same thing happened this morning. Is this the lean surge? I've read so much about it, but I thought it was bigger. Both times it only lasted about a second.

Factors (possible): it is very cold here compared to normal and new oil

So, what does a surge feel like. I AM planning on doing the 22 cent, but I want to do it when I am with someone who has done it before.

Surging is felt at a steady throttle usually around 4k rpm's. It will feel like you're giving the throttle little blips even though you're holding it steady.
