I made a windscreen extension by using a $8 HF heat gun to melt $3 plexiglass over a tub (same radius) and used clear two sided tape to affix to the top of the original screen. I also bent in a flair at the top. Going to test ride today. Can't figure out how to post a pic...
Up WY Hwy28 to nearly the Continental Divide west of Atlantic City/South Pass City. Altitude near 8000 ft. Not very much snow along side the highway, yet. Turned around at the highway rest area near Sweetwater River. And then proceeded to take the county dirt road, thru South Pass City/Atlantic City and back down off the mountain. Then took a couple local farm roads to round out my afternoon.
Rinsed the mud off the bike before rolling it back into the shop.
Not bad for late November in the Rocky Mountains, eh. Temp in Lander, 55-60f. Temp on top, 40ish.
Got out for the last ride of the season, 6C with sunny breaks. Did about 130Kms, then came home, changed the oil, lubed the chain, pulled the battery, and removed the air filter for cleaning.
Then watched the bike tip over onto the open pan of used oil. The right side is duly protected from corrosion for the winter.
Put about 70 miles on it yesterday. Temp seems to stay steady about 190 degrees with the thermobob with typical increase when stopped. Outside temp was a nice 70 degrees or so. Going down the long grades the temp used to go lower even at much higher outside air temps. Seems like a worthwhile mod so far.
Cold weather rides needed but not wishing for colder weather
In the last week I’ve done the drill-thru subframe bolt upgrade from EM, Wattman Thermobob, and installed an Eibach 550 rear spring, and a Go Cruise 2 cruise control.
I added the stock KLR bags (top and panniers), changed the stock tires to Continue Escapes, added new doubletake ram mount mirrors and finally....getting ready to add custom dynamics flashing rear brake light.
Love the wide array of accessories!
