Welcome aboard and congrats on the new bike. Helpful hints: Buy some blue loc-tite and loc-tite every nut and bolt you can get your fingers on, especially the exhaust bolts at the muffler. Second highly suggested thing to do, is change out the doohickey. There is more than enough info on here about that, just do a search. Other than that, farkle the bike to suit "your" needs, not everyone elses ..then ride, ride, ride.....

2008 DL650 VStrom Yellow and Black
Previous ride was a 2007 KLR Black/Silver, I miss it..
Looking to get back into KLR's sometime soon.

Thumbs up

Time to strap on some after markets and load er up for a bush ride my man. Take a look at the dealers catalog for yourself and make sure its right for you. Don't let the snake talk you into a purchase you don't want.
Go for some baggage cases, if you plan on doing any camping. I like my hard "Givi's" for the protection but I'm sure other guys will preach soft luggage in case of a bail. Like DX said it's up to you.

My 01 came with the doohickey, chain balancer, msr hand guards, 2 givi 21 ltr hard cases, corbin seat, anti vibrate mirror on the left side, heated hand grips, voltometer, clock digital display, skid plate, dual star rear brake,.. Just got some Renthal Jimmy Button high riser bars and I'll be going for the two brothers racing slip-on exhaust.

I'm not sure if it's all needed as most came with the bike when I purchased it third hand in '07. The digital display got a short in it and started beeping at me so I cut 'er loose.
The rest has stayed strong and gotten me through rain, ice, hail mountains and city riding with minimal problems. (The biggest being a flat with no spare or patch kit on my way to work and the smallest, the headlight fuse blowing at night... )

There are loads of guys out there that know their stuff. The forums are what turned me onto the KLR and I've had my 01 for 2 years and put over 10'000 kilometers on it and have seen a handful on the streets and in the boons.

GL and Enjoy

Curiosity rests on the seat of a KilLeR.

Ride it and don't drop it!

Have fun on your new purchase. I just crossed 600 miles on my '09 and love it more each time I ride it.

Congratulations!

I've got about 800 miles on my 09.
Received the "recall" notice a couple days ago.
Dealer notified, but no appointment to fix yet. No hurry from my end.
No problems so far: No oil loss or missing bolts or hard start or quit running.
No plans on upgrading the doo; If it ain't broke don't fix it...
