KLR650 for a PCH trip

I am currently considering the purchase of a '09 KLR650. I own a Vulcan 800B and have been a fan of Kawi for a long time now. I am interested in purchasing a second bike (KLR650) to further expand my riding options in Southern Arizona. I.E. adding more dirt to my routes. But I also have a trip planned in 2010 up Route 1 and 101 along the PCH. How does this bike do on paved roads at speed. The only reason I would take the KLR is so that the wife can go solo on the Vulcan and myself on my own bike. The PCH trip is NOT the primary reason I am thinking of buying this bike. If anyone has done around 2,700 mile road trip on paved roads with this bike, I would love to hear about your experiences and thoughts you may have. Thank You and wishing you all a safe journey.

Well, my friend rode his 06' from OH to Yellowstone and Steamboat then back home with me. Granted he couldn't go as fast as I could on the V-strom but he was above 80mph all the way across I-90 against the wind. I've done 400 mile on/off raod trips on mine with a 45 rear sprocket nop problem. If I were going long distance I'd look into a extra seat cushion. But then I'm 6'4" and 290lbs.

I'd get a corbin flat and change the front sprocket to 16 tooth and highway bars in my opinion.

94 KLR,tank guards,sw motech centerstand,Doo done, african switch,mirror dampners, powerpegz, twisted throttle fuses, aluminum skidplate, Bigcee shark disc and jug holder and subframe upgrade, progrip grips,maier handguards/brushguards, avon distanzias,fmf q4 exhaust, headlight guard, handlebar risers, billet rear brake reservoir bracket and guard, dual star shifter,garmin 2820 gps, tmod,disc cover, pcv mod,corbin flat
