Bought My 1st KLR Today!
I've been lurking around these forums for a couple of years now, just waiting for the day I could finally buy a KLR. It finally happened today. I was wondering if I got a good deal or not.
I bought a Y2K with 4,450 miles for $2500.00. It was at a local dealership. They had it stuffed in the back shed waiting to be cleaned up so it never even made it to the showroom floor. The dealer kept saying it had 22,000 miles on it, and I kept looking at the odometer. He said, "You must be looking and the trip meter", and I just nodded. I was deciding wether to tell him about the mileage or not. Finally I did, and he realized the bike had the wrong tag on it. I told him he still had to honor the price and he agreed.
I ran my hands all over the engine checking for oil leaks etc. I got to hear it run but you know how they are about test riding, so I never got to feel the transmission shift. The brakes felt good from what I could tell. It has road tires, a very tall windshield, and some kind of bag on the front fairing above the headlight. Other than that it's completely stock. I can't see anything indicating that it was ever laid over.
Someone told me the Y2K models were still made in Japan. I didn't know they weren't made there or what difference it made.
One more thing... I realized that I've seen this bike around town and talked to the owner a couple of times. I stopped him at a gas station once and he was telling me all about it. I also see him at his work where I make one of my deliveries. I wonder why he sold it? Maybe I can find out some more.
So, how'd I do? I thought the price was good but then again it is 9 years old already. But the mileage is OK. For my budget I feel I was lucky to find anything with this low of mileage. Y2K - KLR650 - Dark Green - 4,450 miles - $2500.00
