lost keys

I just found out I lost my keys yesterday, how do I get another one for my KLR?
Dealer says I have to pull the switch, is there any other way?
Thanks,
John

Hopefully, someone wrote the key number down in your owners manual. I've also been told that the key # can be accessed by the dealer or a good lock shop by using the VIN. You might try a different dealer.

I've never tried to "hotwire" a KLR, but it shouldn't be difficult.

Good luck.

You might have gotten a keyring or a little stamped piece of metal with the number on it. Your dealer is not being straight with you. You can get the number. And then it is simple as can be.

Interesting quick story. I wanted a spare key for my 73 Honda. Took my key in. Lady looked at my key, said a bunch of numbers and then comes out from the back with an old key exactly like mine. It was neat.

A good key shop can use the vin and make one for you.. you will have to have photo ID and owners card possibly for it or proof of purchase that you own the bike.. but Photo ID is a must..

And then make an "extra" extra key and stash it on the bike in a hard to find place. You have to remove a sidecover to get to mine.

I have to remove a sidecover and another to find mine. Quite "airey" where mine is ;-)

Gray-haired riders donít get that way from pure luck.
