Finally took the KLR out, but I got stuck!!!!

It's been a while since I posted, thought I'd share my latest ride!! LOL

Well, today I finally dug the KLR out. It had been sitting since last fall. I decided it was time to take it out for a spin and get the cobb webs off.

I was doing really well at first. Went to Honda to order the brake pads for the ST then did a nice little ride. Then it happened. I actually got stuck and had to call hubby to come and help me get un stuck!! LOL I have to say it was kind of embarrassing. A mail man went by, but I pretended I was just goofing off. Then another car went by and again, I just was goofing off! LOL I even heard my neighbor take off on his Harley, boy I wished he had come my direction, but he didn't! LOL He is a squid on a bike, but I knew he could ride my KLR out of it's position! LOL I tried getting off the bike and using it's power to get out of the predicament, but that just put me up against concrete! So, as I waited for hubby to come help me out, I took this pic!

Yep, got stuck in my own ditch!!!!! LOL

I had gone threw the ditch before with no problems. Only thing was, I went threw a deeper section of the ditch and there was a little bit of concrete toward the top. I think I was going a bit to slow and when the rear tire got to the concrete, it just started to spin. The dirt was still to soft and it just filled in the tires tread, making it a slick! LOL I was able to get out of that mess, but when I tried a different line of attack, it failed too. That is how I ended up against the concrete driveway. I think if I had all my gear on, I may have tried a bit harder, but since I didn't I played it safe. Better to call and be embarrassed that I got stuck, then to get hurt!! I know I'm not going to hear the end of this for a while, hubby will be all over it!!

I only had my shorts and a tshirt on. I think I would have tried a little harder if I would have had my gear on. When I first went to park the bike, I wasn't even planning on going threw the ditch, it was a last minute decision. Guess this is why one should be with ATGATT all the time, even to just park the bike! LOL Yes, I had ATGATT on during my initial ride, just had parked the bike and went out later to put it away!

I also learned something else during this fiasco! I can pick the KLR up by myself!!! When I was first trying to go up by the driveway, it got to an angle that I just couldn't hold up while on the bike. I had to lay it down, then pick it back up!!! That is when I decided to try to get it out while off the bike, but that didn't work either. The tire just slid and I got the side of the bike wedged into the concrete.

So, I guess you could say, one never knows when they will get into a predicament while riding a DS. So be prepared!! I didn't have to use my SPOT LOL, but I did have to use my cell phone! LOL Luckily I had service next to my house!!! LOL

Shoot, no issue with me!! Just remember... you can't figure out what a KLR can do unless you try. You won't always make everything, that's the excitement part. I think what you could of done by yourself is rock the bike back and forth until you work the front end to the left and drop it down fully in to the ditch also. Then you can get some speed and ride it up either side.

Yah, that is what I did the first time I got it stuck. I rocked it back and forth and got it down in the ditch. Thing is I was just a bit to scared on how much gas to give it to climb up the other side and this is how I got it stuck in the pic. Once I was up against the concrete drive way, I felt I couldn't go any further. Maybe if I wasn't so tired from lifting it and trying so hard, I may have been able to do what you said. Being embarrassed and getting tired from trying to hold the bike up, I just gave up and called for help! LOL It's a girl thing!! LOL That and I don't have much experience on the DS side of things! I know my friend would have got it out with no problems, but he didn't come my way, bummer! I would have liked to watch him get it out. Hubby and I just pushed it up out in the direction it was already facing. I guess he figured being up against the concrete, that was the best way to get it out!

Oh, and I tried, but with out the gear on, I wasn't willing to try to hard. LOL I was in my shorts, tshirt, and no helmet! I didn't want to do something wrong while trying, and get hurt in the process!! I also think if I had knobby tires, I would have been a bit more successful! The Distanzias just filled up with soft dirt!!

I do chalk it up to a new experience with the DS, and was glad I was close to home! REAL close!!! LOL

Your incident did bring back memories of my mud situation while solo. I was also near home (about 5 miles) and got a little zealous and ended up going across a 10 foot patch of crusted over mud... SPLOOOOOT!!! Dropped down in it half wheel depth and instantly stopped and stuck in the thickest mud I ever seen. Took me 1.5 hours to get it out. I hate mud!! Man I hate mud!!!

I had to laugh (sorry) about not wanting to call for help. I was stuck in an outdoor smoking area once when I used to smoke. T-shirt. 8pm. 55 degrees or so. Lots of people passed and I was too embarrassed to say anything. Then no one passed. Then it got very late. Then it got very cold. Then I started yelling.

LOL, yah, I didn't really want to call for help, but I felt I had no other choice! LOL I tried for a while, but then I got tired! I should have just left it, went in got a drink, got my gear on, and tried even harder! LOL I was at home! LOL

Sounds like yours was a bit worse then my situation though!! Yikes!!! I hate the cold!!!
