An entire website 4 Sale!

Wow!

klr650.net website for sale.

I went there to have a read of anything new this AM after having a look here 1st, just like I normally do. And instead of the opening page taking a pause to advertise one of their preferred vendors, I saw the whole website for sale.

One would have to be very highly skilled with computers and KLRs, imo.

Out of curiosity I logged in there but I didn't have the same result. Maybe he sold it!!!??? Can't imagine what the price tag on that would be but probably up there given the owner. Maybe buy a KLR or two or three or .....

It suggested that its value should be near $175,000 USD.

Would consider serious offers over $100,000. Already has some offers pending.

Must be quite the cash cow to be valued that high.

The whole dark theme thing has turned me off from using that site. Must be an old fart thing.

@pdwestman, do you have a link? like klr4evr I don't see that when I go there and I don't see any buzz about it.

edit: Never mind. I see it at www.klr650.net

.net asked its members to click on advertisements excessively, without authentic interest, to drive up advertising revenue. Apparently the fees paid by advertisers are a function of the number of clicks their ads receive.

I'd suggest a hard, independently-audited look at .net's books for anyone contemplating website acquisition.

Like dan filipi posts above, I consider the entire enterprise flaky; YMMV.

Whoever buys it: Consider allowing THIS website's URL to be posted!

dan,
I vaguely remember once seeing a way to change the background from dark to white.

I really don't mind the dark background. Even tho I occasionally have referred to the site as the "dark .net", for personal reasons.

I will actually wish the current owner Glenn the best in future endeavors and hope that the desire or need to sell is not health related.
I hope that any new owner does at least as good of job at operating the website as Glenn has done in the 8 years that I have been actively involved in any of the KLR forums.

The dark background I refer to is not a visual one.

Banning members capriciously and arbitrarily; forbidding links to other websites; X-ing out links to any but Glenn's favored vendors . . .

If that's a "good of job at operating the website," the policies run far from my idea of what a "forum" might be, i.e., a place for the free exchange of ideas, opinions, and information. .net hasn't fulfilled the definition in my view; YMMV.

DISCLAIMER: I have never been banned from .net; despite the claims of a member of this forum who actually WAS banned there.

You're an underachiever.

It was never hard to get banned over there. All you had to do was wait until a certain time of the month, then anything you said would work. If I could do it, you could have too.

I wear my "Banned from .net" badge with honor. Banning someone from the site is a joke anyway. It's the internet. Set up a new g-mail account, use a VPN and you're in again but I never go there since my posts were edited by the owner to make himself look good. I have no use for the site or AH's in general.

Yabbut, you took Latin as a part of your misspent youth.

That's yer problem, right there.

You're operating off an antiquated definition of "forum", id est "the marketplace or public place of an ancient Roman city forming the center of judicial and public business; public meeting place for open discussion", as opposed to the modern definition.

"forum": a virtual round table around which members may plop their [that which is normally under a fig leaf] to see whose is the largest; a gathering place for arguments wherein the winner is the first to be called a Nazi by another (Godwin's Law); an institution where individuals who, in more circumspect times, would not be held in high regard can be held up as saints and gurus and the Source of All Knowledge (SOAK).
