What to pack/not to pack

I thought that since there is always interest in what to pack or not to pack for trips, that I would start an open discussion thread to add thoughts and ideas, and then pick thru them with thoughts and questions. This thread
http://klrforum.com/showthread.php?t=6430
inspired me to start .The idea is we will pick a subject and add to it as we go discussing why we would take something or why not.I'll list some topics to get us started and try to run a topic from Thursday to Thursday before moving on.Lets assume we are on a week long desolate trip thru the north country Hopefully thru this open forum we can come up with very usuable information for future reference. If you diagree with something to take please be kind and civil and give an explanation why you think it's not necessary

Topics

1. Personal Items
2. tires/tubes
3.camping gear>tents,sleeping bags
4.camping gear>cooking,misc
5.tools
6.medical
7.clothing>riding gear
8.clothing>personal

Add some topics if we need them

Personal Items.

Since I wear glasses,I take an extra set with me incase breaking a set
tooth paste/brush
ear plugs-for the long drone
bug juice
camp soap-biodegradable
hair comb/brush
Pain relievers (aspirin type)

suggestions/additions?

You can't shake hands with a fist
If you can read this, thank a teacher.Since it's in English,

Good idea Mike,
I assume we are just doing Personal items first?
I would add dental floss, just because I had something stuck between my back teeth once and it drove me nuts! Another item that's good to have is toilet paper! Not sure if this is personal or medical but a good anti diarea med can be invaluable if you get some bad food, water, or just a bug.

First off, no guns...jail sucks.

A little trick I learned a few years back for long trips. Save all your almost worn out underwear, and instead of packing up dirty shorts, toss 'em every day. Works for socks too.

Those little travel deoderants rock!

Tifford. No offense, but there are gun forums. I just checked. This is a motorcycle forum. I looked at a few gun forums. No one was talking about motorcycles.

Jail's only an issue if you're carrying illegally. There are only 2 states that don't issue Concealed Carry Permits. (and I live in one and work in the other) My CCW buddy is a Ruger LCP in .380, and yes, I pack it and have it ready when I'm in states that allow it (most around me)
But it is sort of an off topic item.. If you're legal to CCW and can accept the risk, do so, but the whole point of concealled carry is that others don't know you're legally carrying, so bringing it up in a topic that's not about it sorta defeats the purpose..

I also alway pack a multi tool, a few stainless 10mm fasteners and a flat repair kit..
Actually, I'm always overpacked on trips.
I don't pack a tube or tires, but I carry stuff to make coffee. My camping gear is tuned towards cool weather, and it's light weight stuff..
I usually carry some sort of an extra jacket or sweater for cold weather for when you get caught on a cool day, or after dark.
I carry extra gloves and a pair of socks in a ziplock bag in case I get caught in rain and want warm, dry stuff.

I also seldom go anywhere without an electric vest. Nothing sucks more than being chilled and having 2 hours to ride. Electric vest warms your core, and if your core's warm, you're warm.

A small container of sunblock and asprin go with me, as well as a little bottle of WD40..

This is the tip of the iceberg.. Like I said, I pack too much..
