Mysterious Yamaha...

I saw the sweetest little bike tonight. It was a small (200? 250? Maybe 175...) cc Yamaha. I would say late seventies early eighties. With the little pearldrop tank and the block Yamaha lettering in gold (like a smaller honda rebel). It was in good shape, maroon paint, but the awesome part was it had a big trunk on it that extended over the "passenger" area and was padded on the front giving a perfect backrest to the rider. The trunk matched the paint color of the bike. I tried to flag the guy down and failed. Anyone know anything of this and/or can send me a link to a picture.

I rarely get bike envy, but this little thing was SWEET.

Sadly enough my phone doesn't even have a camera. It plays 'eye of the tiger' when it rings though.

This pic is too big to embed.

There's a fella in the background reading a Haynes manual...

Just a guess, though, maybe this is what you saw.

Could be a SR250 Exciter from the early 80's. I believe they had a rear trunk acces. option. They made a 175 version as well.

Can't find a pic anywhere. My ex-wife had one a long time ago, and it was a pretty sweet "little" bike. It didn't have the trunk, though.

Found one!

Yup, I knew you'd get it Tom. That was it for sure. The trunk was so cool though...I was looking online last night and I think he may have put an old scooter trunk on there...it was too big to be a "proper" trunk for that bike, and I would have seen one before because it was too freaking cool. If so, he did a good job...it looked like a tiny goldwing in the back.

Indyjay, Exciter. Was it pronounced with a long or short 'i' sound?

Dan, I have been in the process of acquiring different ringtones for my phone because Frankie is one music obsessed 9 month old and when she's holding it and it rings, it is about the funniest thing you've ever seen. Dance party. The songs I had on there were OK, but Survivor is so funny it hurts.

BTW, good friend of mine knows their manager. Those dudes have been living off eye of the tiger since they wrote it. And living well. Yes, it keeps me up at night, too.

Long "I", as in excite. Used to have an XS400, and if the one you saw had a trunk, it was a custom deal, most likely.

Yeah, I figured so. Why don't they name bikes like that anymore.

Yeah, it must have been a custom deal. I'll see him again. And I will chase him down. And if all goes well I will leave with some info and NOT another motorcycle.
