Ro-tell-a! Ro-tell-a! (imagine a big horn)

I'm making the switch, but before I do I want to double check. This is the right stuff, eh?

I'm not familar with the 08 alot, but did they change the engine specs? I'm goin on the following info for 07s and older.I have an 05.
I am also not a full fledged wrencher either
The oil for it is SAE 20w-50
Meets the following standards
ch-4
ce
cf
cd
sh
sj
and jaso ma

20w= the thinnest the oil will get
50= thickest

My concern would be the wet clutch. Is the 15w substantial enough for the clutch plates without causing excessive wear or friction heat?Plus I would check and see what the ash content is.I use Rotella in my diesel engines, but have never looked at it for the bikes.Just my 2cents.I'm definetly not an oil specialist

Somehow, Rotella and other 15w-40 diesel oils have become the standard for motorcycles.. Shifting is better, and I've never heard anyone have an issue with clutch slippage..
I've been running it in my KLR for the past 15k miles, and in my Goldwing since it's first oil change, as well as my BMW (dry clutch).

Almost every Wing rider I know (both personally and internet) run this oil, and the majority of motorcycle riders I know run it, too. I also ran it in my V Strom..

I don't have my manual handy, but 20w-50 is only recommended for the hottest temps, and if I remember correctly, the recommended oil for general use is 10w-40..

Not starting an oil war, here..

While checking I found this site.. http://germz.org/klr650/oil.html and I chuckled when his first paragraph about oil is:
Quote:
Cutting to the chase: The best oil that I have found is Shell Rotella T 15-40 Heavy Duty commercial diesel oil.
I guess it's just good stuff!!

I hadn't even seen that site until I was searching for the oil spec.. Good info on there!!

I tend to change oil in the KLR every 2000 miles because it sees everthing from short trips to some actual offroad and gravel road riding.. My bike also tends to consume a bit under a half quart every 1000 or so miles, so since I'm occasionally filling, I just change it.. Been that way since I bought it with 1200 miles on it.. Never goes up or down and I've got close to 18K on it now..

One of the guys I ride with runs Motul 15w-40..
