KLR Updates/Mod's

After this last Saturday's ride, over N.H.'s spring frost heaves, My LED mounting showed it self to be problematic. After hitting a couple of "big-ones" my mount got pushed up so that when I turned wheel hard left, or right, it hit my front faring.
Time for "Redesign" !!

Here's first mount.... ( Seemed like a good idea at the time! )

Bracket got pushed up under full compression. ( Progressive Suspension MAYBE ??? )
I made new brackets to hold the LED's.
Here's my "What I did to my KLR today".......

Result....
All off..

Normal Headlight...

Hd. Light & LED's...

Broke out the welder! Footpeg brackets, crash bars, muffler blown apart by backfiring post KLX kit. I really like the sound and performance so I'm not screwing with it.

I will still advise most people to NOT Weld the footpeg brackets on.
Tom Schmitz and roadrash83 like this.

Well, I'm going to make a short video of what I did yesterday that is so effective and yet so very simple and cheap, that it will blow your collective minds and it has to do with making that seat actually comfortable and not a binding up everything down there. You know what I'm talking about.

You've obviously never had the pegs rip out of the frame when landing a jump!!! It's a miracle my legs weren't broken and probably much worse!!! The brackets are welded to the centerstand bracket. Once I install zerks in the swingarm pivots I will kill (weld) the bolts. Now I finally feel safe enough to actually ride it again. Welding the dirtracks full body bars should allow me to winch it out without tweaking the bars like happened last time.

I guess most people shouldn't be making major structural welds. I might be qualified. 30+ AWS certifications, QC1 CWI, Run a welding school/ Audited Testing Facility.

As a CWB and CGSB qualified NDE Senior inspector, I couldn't agree more
