Does an IMS Tank substitute for crash bars?

For those of you that have an IMS tank on your gen2 in place of the OEM, do you also have nerf bars or do you rely on the metal mounts beneath the tank as a de facto crash bar?

I do not have bars. My IMS tank has scars, but has never failed to protect stuff. I tend to fall to the left. I'm pretty good at it.

GoMotor will beg to differ about the protective qualities of the IMS 10 gallon Gen 2 tank. (If he sees this thread.)

He has had to replace the fuel inlet nipple on his carburetor (the fuel hose yank it Hard!) while on a cross country trip & J B welded the leaky radiator, which was later replaced.

Modify at "YOUR OWN RISK"!

I'd be tempted to install the Gen1 IMS 6.6 gallon which DOES adequately protect the rad may require some minor tweeking to get it to fit on a Gen2 but it has been done.

This note is posted on the HT site: Note from IMS: IMS says this can be installed on a 2008+ with modification to fairings. Happy Trails does not warrant this fitment. KLR650E owners (2008+) purchase at your own risk.
