OK, help me out...weird

...this is weird. Was riding home from work tonight going about 30-40 and suddenly it sounded (and felt) like someone hit the bottom of the left footpeg with a wooden mallet. I looked behind me and there was nothing on the road I could see. I stopped to check the bike out. Nothing obviously wrong. It "felt" like it came from the bike not outside forces. Maybe I'm tripping. It was a hard knock, just once...like I said, felt like someone whacked the underside of the footpeg with a mallet. ???? Any ideas? Is it possible it was something related to the bike?

I'll post a picture as soon as my wife gets home. Aside from some oil where I'm not sure there is supposed to be any (which could be from the chain cleaning and greasing I recently did), everything seems AOK. No marks on the peg, nothing on me (blood, etc), so I don't think it was a critter...

this is what I was referring to, but I don't know if it is a problem or related to the weird sound. Everything else looks normal.

Yeah, I figured chain lube, but the whole thing was so weird. I also saw a gnarly accident today, and that kind of put me in a paranoid state of mind. And...um...yeah, I've never changed the plug. Just ordered some.

Thanks man.
