People don't know what kind of bike a KLR is

I've wanted a KLR since the 80's. Now that I have one, I am amazed at how many people don't know what kind of bike it is. Most people think it's just a crotch rocket. On that note, it's a crotch burner if anything. People just don't know what a dual sport bike is. I am amazed. I mean lots of guys don't know.

Yeah I have been asked many a time.
What the hell kinda bike is that about my 08'. Is that a custom bike? What do you do with that thing?
A 650 huh so it's a fast bike?
That's a big ads dirtbike.
What bike did you take those plastics off of and how did you make them fit on your dirt bike.

It's pretty funny sometimes.

I love it!
I've got two brothers that try their hardest to deny me my KLR affair!
Now that they have gone through,,,,,, I think it's 5 different bikes now combined, one of them says "maybe KLR is the way to go".
So the other brother says why would you think that? The African Twin brother says, cause he's the only one that can fix his any where. If he can't fix it he can buy two more walking out to the hwy for less than I pay for an oil change!

They kill me!

Must be the people you meet. Ive been riding mostly canyon twistes for the past few months and the sport bike guys definitely know its a dual sport. On the other hand, many have thought my 83 Goldwing is a new bike, so who knows lol. One needs to be into bikes to know the differences.

KLR's aren't all that uncommon in California. Although it seems as though most are used more as Urban Assault Vehicles in L.A. and Bay Area Traffic than as off road bikes.

Also FWIW, a KLR is like one of the old air cooled VW's. No matter how bad they break, it's almost always cheaper to fix them than it is to throw them away.

HA, maybe that explains why you don't see many used ones for sale! At least on the right coast.

I am always getting odd looks from people that have no clue what it is. Mine had all the stickers removed so its not labeled with anything and that tends to confuse everyone. I run the Karoo 3s on mine as well.... which tends to lead people to ask why I'm riding a dirt bike on the road.
