I may stop wearing a reflective vest

I came from a Harley to the KLR where we wore basically ZERO protective gear. So now I'm trying to be a bit safer so i wear my jacket, helmet and a yellow reflective vest over my jacket. I am now constantly cut off in traffic. This NEVER happened on my Harley and I drove to work a few times without the vest and appeared to be treated with a bit more respect.

Now, I don't mean macho respect, I mean traffic respect. This morning I'm merging onto the highway and a pickup is in the right lane over my left shoulder and I was going fast than he was on the ramp so should have been a natural merge. No, this azzwipe floors it. All of this about 75MPH. Well I run out of room before the end of the ramp and whip in behind him and then cut over a lane and fly up next to him still around 70mph. I go off on the guy and of course I have a mega horn that is loud as all get out.

It's some twenty something and I wish I had my camera so you could see his eyes.

Anyway, while people defeinitly see me, they are also putting me in danger by jetting out in front of me, following on my fender or actively fkin with me. I think I'm just going to put something reflective on my helmet perhaps.

No, I have noticed a real difference. I don't think it's in my head.

My white bike, yellow jacket and white helmet made people think "COP".

Maybe that's the key. I will have to see if I can get the Charlotte PD to paint their bikes Florescent Green!

I think you'd have more luck painting "yours" to match "theirs". Interactions with the "Po Po" can have a negative impact on your ability to ride and with all the news today, they don't want to talk about "color".

I (55YO) drive Tempe, AZ a lot... ASU is there.

First - I have all kindsa drivers from all over the world with EVERY kinda driving-style in this University-town.
2nd - most are inexperienced-driver College Students though many seem to be adults who have a certain set of 'common among teachers' attitudes (bicycles/peds not so much the problem).
3rd - there are an undue number of millennials and liberals here in Tempe based on keeping a pretty close eye on University News and Activities (I'm trying to say 'I'm not 'assuming' only here; I've extrapolated out the above after education, experience, and a little bit of good-faith research). They have bumper stickers and they drive a little bit differently than most.
4th - we have the stupid-____-self-driving Uber/Waymos out here and talk about TOO SAFE BECOMING DANGEROUS (if you've ever been around them, they are SUUUUUUPER-SLOW and won't go 'right on red'… HATE ‘EM).

This might seem like a stretch, but we must all become aware of a phenomenon in America similar to what we're witnessing in Politics right now (or Racism, or MeToo, or FakeNews, or “hurt feelings”, or, or, or) and that is...

More and more people are 'getting even' or ‘trying to upset things’ more than they are 'talking' or working it out AND FOR THE MERE SAKE OF GETTING ME OFF MY GAME. AND, even worse, some really nasty ones ACT LIKE THEY DON’T SEE ME, even in my cage (and especially on my bike).

Research Obama and his OFA and you’ll find this group is interested in demonstrating everywhere about everything against everyone they don’t agree with, period. They don’t want to talk; they want to obey Maxine Waters-like commands to ‘start riots’ (my words). Black Lives Matter in most cases is just one and they are getting more extreme, like Antifa who ain’t playin’ ya’ll!!! If they show up at your next Rally, go on ahead and call it a day unless you want some trouble.

I’m still on topic, hang in there…
I've had drivers feign not “seeing” me and moving into my lane so deliberately (whether quickly or slowly) that it would be considered criminal if I had video, an attorney and a judge in the car/on the bike with me.
I've had drivers signal and come over whether there's room or not [squeezing in an unsafe space with NO concern for consequences to them or others (especially others)].
I'm having drivers start to 'get even' much more often over the last year or so. If I'm a jerk and you're a jerk back... that's fair. And I have been a jerk-driver before. If I'm 'just driving' and you don't like that I got in front (or WhatTheBlankEver) and you go 'jerk', well... that ain't right!
I'm even having drivers impede me when they decide they just sense me wanting to go fast (sure, that's a reach, but I'm a tiny bit more scientific than 'Hey! Did you see that?!?!). TRUE!

AND HOW MANY OF US HAVE BEEN BRAKE-CHECKED?!?!?!

And aren't ya'll being or seeing Brake-Checking AS FRIKKIN' COMMON PRACTICE NOW?!?!
Even when I was a punk I didn't brake-check folks (except at 16YO driving cross-country once; that Trucker showed me GOOD... MAN I was poopin' in my shorts!). Sorry Trucker, my bad, I'z-a punk at 16!!!

All that to say, I think you’re looking at the wrong thing, Patroy.
Certainly more ‘BeSeen’ gear is smart… of course it is!
BUT!
If I’z you I’d consider looking at Drivers rather than Drivers looking at you. I drive as if I was invisible, like no one will ever see me. Yeh, I ride to be seen but I don’t count on it that I am. In fact, I count on it that they DIDN’T SEE ME!

My Adjustments related to your Post Patroy:

More ‘constructive’ might be too find the driver’s eyes in their mirrors (side and rear); they give me clues most of the time as to their intent, often even before THEY KNOW WHAT THEY’RE GOING TO DO!

Notice Driver subtle movements in the driver seat, too (slightest head-turn, reaching for turns, and even the vehicle ‘wandering’ toward their exit/lane change). It sounds like more than a Rider wants to take on whilst simultaneously piloting a motorcycle but it is merely an adjustment from watching vehicles to watching the Drivers in them MORE!

Be aware Riders/Drivers… folks are playing back on the roads like it’s a game. And it ain’t is it?!?! See the Drivers beyond their Vehicles they are messing with you in… it puts you ahead of the game (like the OODA loop for you Tacticians).
