Tire suggestions?

I know this is like talking about oil, but thought I'd solicit some ideas. I am currently running a gripster on the back and the stocker in the front. I dig the set up and am pretty tempted to replace the front with the same (the rear is fine).

If I was going to upgrade the front tire, I have heard some negative things about the gripster front. Thoughts? Suggestions?

I guess it comes down to the type of riding you do Dan. If you ride like I do the stock Dunlap front seems to be fine. I tend to swap out both at a time and run sets of tires. As you know I currently have the Mefo Explorers on and they seem to be holding up fine. They do handle quite differently than the Michelin T66's that were on previously but I guess I'm used to the change. I don't do much in the way of speed cornering so I can live with anything, when it comes to speed on twister's, "Live" is the operative word.

My wife's' KLR has a Mefo rear and a Continental knobbie on the front. I really like the soft front on her ride. It seems to grip better on corners.

Yeah, I'm seriously leaning Dunlop. I didn't like the stock rear tire, but the gripster dunlop combo seems tough to beat. (But then again, don't really have anything to compare it too). I definitely don't need anything more dirt worthy than the gripster. hmmm.......

I don't think you'll ever find a better 50/50 tire then Mefo 99's. I'm amazed at their trail worthiness and I've had them on some pretty knarly singletrack. They are excellent road tires also. Bit more pricey, but you can get anywhere from 7,000 to 9,000 miles out of them or more depending on riding habits.
