Tire pairing?

So I have some 80% off road knobblies on my bike, but the front tire has some pretty serious wear on the side walls. I was wondering if I could put a 60% off road tire on the front to give just a little more on-road traction, or would I be better just getting another 80% off road?

Tires are like ice cream. Everybody likes a different flavor.
Depends on where and how you ride and what your priorities are.
