Red face New To The Forums

EHi everyone. I'm super happy to be part of the forums here. I'm looking at getting my first bike and test rode a 2009 KLR650 the other day and really enjoyed it. I'm currently searching around my area for used ones but a lot of the people selling have done a few mods and the prices seem a bit high. I have 0 knowledge right now so I'd love some help in determining what to keep a look out for.

Here's the one I'm wanting to look at right now.

g

Its a 2017. Has 3,000 miles on it. The owner posted that it has "lots of extras" and is asking $5,500. I know it has a Lexx MX Exhaust but not sure of what else. He's not great at responding to my questions.

My bank won't loan more than $4,250 for it. I'm pretty sure they don't know/care about any upgrades. I'm not sure what's a fair offer. Any help or guidance you guys could provide would be awesome. He did say that all he did was put on the exhaust. He didn't do anything else to the engine. I'm not sure what jetting is etc but I don't think he didn't any of that. Do you think that's necessary?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum. Adding your location info to your profile will help us answer your questions better.

Your pictures arenít showing because as a new member you need to have 15 posts behind you to post pictures and links. Itís a spam fighting measure. You can post the link and a Moderator will fix it so the picture or link is active.

To comment on your post firstly I would walk away from a seller who isnít answering my questions. Also 2008 and 2009 KLRís had a reputation for using oil. May be best for you to stay away from them. Buy the newest bike you can afford.

Thanks for the reply. I just filled out my profile! I walked away from the 2009 that I was looking at. It was at a small local dealer and their asking price was ridiculous. I went and looked at the 2017 last night that I mentioned in my first post and it's in pristine condition. 3k miles. I was able to get the guy down to $5k and I think I'm going to go for it. He added a metal skid plate, upgraded exhaust and re-jetted the carb. Handlebar risers, drop cage, put on a power outlet for accessories, added a trickle charger port and a few other things. If all goes well at the bank later I will officially be part of the elite KLR club! I can't wait to dig in.

***NOTE*** I added the links to the two photos in the original post. Thanks.

Read this link, https://www.klrforum.com/introductio...kes-avoid.html

And look at the engine oil drain plug for issues on any used bike. And ask to inspect the air filter also, it Should be Oily, even oily dusty is ok.
Dry as a bone, I'd walk away. They Created an oil burner.

Try and get the stock exhaust with it too. So called ďupgradedĒ exhaust usually equate to not much more than noise.
