Buying a KLR

Hi folks, so for buying a KLR what potential problems should I be looking for?

In addition to the usual used bike stuff, there are some KLR related items; many of them identified here;

https://www.klrforum.com/1987-2007-w...kes-avoid.html

In particular, check the oil drain plug area for leaks, cracks and/or shoddy repairs. Check the airbox for the presence of the clean side drain tube and make sure it's plugged. Also check the airbox at the header to muffler pipe junction for melting and leaks. Make sure the speedo works so you know the hub isn't damaged......and make sure it has oil at least half way up the sight glass (the very top is preferred)

Thanks again Dave, that’s very helpful. There aren’t that many to choose from here but I’ve found a few. I’ll be dragging the wife out at the weekend to go looking. Thanks again Dave that’s great info

Welcome MattyB !

Can't go wrong following Dave's guidance.

Also, we are sometimes nosy neighbors (ok, I am anyways) -and don't mind peaking over your shoulder when you're shopping for a scooter or wrenching on it. So pics and a story is always welcome fodder for discussions here.

There's a rule about having N number of posts before you can add pics, but there's test forum where you can pump up your rookie numbers so that your account qualifies.

Again, Welcome!

Thanks so much. I’m more than happy to have you guys looking over my shoulders so I’ll be posting and looking for guidance from the wealth of experience here. It’s great to be a member. I’ll head over to the test forum and get my numbers up. Thanks again
