Welding

Does any one see a problem with a little spot welding on bars that are bolted to the frame with the battery disconnected. My KLR is 1992. Am making my own engine bars to suit the Tengai fairing. The bars will be bolted to the frame, to position each part correctly they will be spot welded to each other and then the entire unit unbolted and welding completed.

welding

Rocka,
you should be okay.
I weld on all manner of motorcycles (stell and aluminum frames) on a nearly daily basis, and have been for two decades.
I always disconnect the negative terminal from the battery. This is especially important if using an arc welder, (stick weld)
Most of mine these days is tig, which the hi frequency style welding doesn't seem to have the risk of damaging expensive little block boxes in modern electrical systems.
I still disconnect though, just to be safe.
weld away.

I don't know much about welding, but my bro in law does and I eavesdrop and ask lots of Q's...he builds hot rods. You got good advice from Kent.

I must not be fully awake yet, I read the subject line and thought we were gonna have a KLR wedding...rings made out of doohickeys, walmart atv seats for all....
