Helmet Hygiene

The other day I removed the cheek pads from my HJC AC-12 helmet to confirm the size (I am buying new check pads). They looked a little dirty so I decided to wash them...Jeez Louise they were VERY dirty and I hand washed them three times before they rinsed clean. A couple days later I was installing the now clean cheek pads and discovered the head liner was simple to remove. The head liner did not look dirty but I decided to clean it anyway...Jeez Louise it was dirty and I hand washed it twice before it rinsed clean. My helmet is 2+ years old and 40,000 miles with not much off-road riding and I would have never thought the inside of this helmet would be as dirty as it was.

I have washed my mesh jacket twice and both times it was very dirty (mud ran off of it when I squirted it with the hose) plus it smelled of wet dead bugs. I have never washed my non-mesh jackets and I can only guess.

I did my helmet for the first time a while back. Agreed. As if a daily reminder from my cell phone screen of my general greasiness was not enough. Helmet smells nicer with the guts clean.
