More visible for $15 bucks.

For the past week or so we have been getting creamed with wind and rain. Moreso than usual. It got me thinking about how visible I am. I wear a white helmet. I have a lot of reflective shit on my bike. But I saw probably 20 rear enders in the last week, and people almost merged into me a few times. So, I debated LED, flashing, signal flares…it all seemed like a lot of work. Then I thought of this. When I get my gloves out of my trunk I tap em on. Tap em off when I get home. They are metal and seem well built. Rain may kill em. But if so, I’m only out $15. Got them off Amazon with free shipping for $7.44 each.

By the way, I was initially going to put them on the back of the trunk, but they are WAY too bright. On the side they still show up from behind (better than the pic shows) and if you’re about to take out my rear tire, well, maybe you won't.

And there she goes. I might get another for the top of the trunk.

Thanks brother. I decided to order one for the top of the trunk, too. I want to look like a goldwing from the back.

Are you a ziptie distributer??

Good Idea putting them on the sides. Dont know what johnnylaw will say about it.. But I'm sure they'd have a fit if the lights pointed back.

A zip tie connoisseur.

The trunk is attached right...Tim convinced me the design was faulty and that I would lose my trunk on the freeway. Zipties are easy insurance.

Battery. I think AAA's but I didn't check cause they were loaded. Simple is my middle name.

And oh yeah, they come in other colors. Even close to Kawi Green. I, of course, got black cause I am a badass.

The only thing I'd change is something more bright as your rear bandana.. A old fashioned red one flopping around back there will gather a lot of attention during the day. Just a suggestion..

It's a good suggestion, Paper. I think the movement gets people's attention and I like to have a bandana on hand. Got a lot of blue and red ones...and I thought about it. But they could get me trouble I don't need around here.

LJ, just a thought on being too conspicuous. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for high viz but I have to wonder if the flashing lights wouldn't cause some drivers to have target fixation because of them. You know, the way you see on TV when a driver runs into a police car that has someone stopped on the side of the road with lights flashing to the rear. BTW, here in Texas the DPS has stopped doing that I've noticed lately.

Gray-haired riders don’t get that way from pure luck.
