Anyone else go riding today?

Got some new toys for the 09 and couldn't resist going for a quick ride inbetween the rain and snow. Installed one of those new fangled brake lights that blink a programmed pattern before staying brightly ON, love it.

Removed the kickstand safety switch and jumpered it out.

Also, put on the new tank bag just to see what riding with that on was like.
First thing I noticed is that it forces me back further on the seat. Don't know if I'm going to like that because 95% of my riding experiance has been in the dirt and I'm just more comfortable riding way forward on the tank, oh well.

I rode with my Ipod on but the wind noise was just too loud.

Well, after about 30mins my fingers were nearly numb and my legs weren't feeling much better so pulled her back home and parked it.

Who else has braved the cold to take their scooter out?

I had mine out about a week ago, theres only a few good days in these michigan winters that the snow and salt leave the road long enough for a ride.At 29 degrees my gloves are only good for about 30 miles though.

Snowed today... And to make matters worse, the snowmobile trails don't have enough snow on them..

...I rode ~ 5 miles on Saturday before the NEXT 3" of snow here in beautiful CO.

John (back to the garage to add more farkles, what the heck!)

Farkled probably WAY too much, but good 20' footer for sure. '96 KLR, '06 HD VROD, (girl friend hauler), '05 HD Electra-Glide, heh it's a HD and I'm old now ;-) and I'm proud of riding a 800+ pound bike at my age :-)

I did a few miles today. Never got much above 30, roads were clear but yesterdays snow kept me from doing any real riding. Back to work tomorrow, looking for snow Thursday and Friday so next weekend isnt looking so good either.

You start with a full bag of luck and an empty bag of experience. Hopefully you fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.

12 miles on a new 09

I picked up the bike a month ago. Got in 12 miles before the snow started flying. If the snow is clear for a few days the wind chill is in the single digits. Been spending a lot of time working in MS so thought I might haul it down there to at least break it in, but it has been snowing there too! It is 2 hours from the Gulf! Where is the Global Warming I was promised?

I'm itchin' BAAAD !!
Living along southern Lake Michigan makes for some nasty winters,
but the best summers on the planet. (Can ya tell I like it here?)

Been hovering right around freezing, then back into the teens at nite.
Still, it's a short hop to work and the C-stores so I get out a.m.a.p..

Short, cold runs are hard on the oil due to condensation, so I have to remember
to run it 15 minutes to full temp before starting off or leaving it idling a bit after
getting back home. Gotta steam off the internals.

I haven't had a good true ride in a coupla months. That part really sux.

cold blooded

Wow, that does remind me of how cold natured this bike is! It has been a couple years since I had a carbureted bike (fuel injection is sooo idiot proof!), but I don't recall my DRZ400S being anywhere near this cold natured. If I even look at the throttle or the choke for 10 minutes on these cold days when warming up, it dies. Guess I oughta do the search on the thermo bob thingy?!

Good on you. I don't know how you folks up north can deal with the winter, especially those who have to "winterize" your bike every year and just let it sit there.

I only have about a 20 minute ride to work so I pretty much ride year 'round. It was 21 this morning and has been below 35 a lot this winter -more than usual. But, as long as the road isn't icing over I'll usually ride.

I'd rather you offend me with the truth than appease me with a lie.
