IMHO This helmet saved my life

No helmet would have probably broken my jaw, slashed my face, or removed an eye.

This helmet was pristine before the accident

This part is scary. Obviously the vent was ripped out. All the green color is from a fence post. This shot would have killed or crippled me.

Im not looking to start anything on pro vs con helmets. "I" believe in helmets. I also believe in free choice. The fact is helmets save lives, mine did.

UPS Just showed up. Time to start wrenching. Someone get a stopwatch. I hope to be finished this afternoon. I'll post a completed picture tonight.

Stopwatch started. 3:26 pm CA time.

Dude, thank you, on behalf of everyone for posting these pics. I will never understand why anyone would ride without a helmet or decent gear. You just helped someone whether you'll ever know it or not.

Send Arai a pic of the helmet and this thread. They might replace it for free.

Its ALIVE. I like the black fender. Surgery only lasted 2.5 hrs. Notice I screwed up the left hand grip. To be repaired soon.

If any of you are in the Yosemite/Mariposa area give me a holler. I know lots of logging roads that go pretty far into the Sierra Mountains.

I'm Back....

Well four months and 2 days ago was the accident. Today, I was cleared by my doctor to return to work in full capacity as a Wildland Firefighter. I also consider that as to mean I get to ride the KLR again. The bike is back in good condition, I have given her a few test rides (nothing more than a few miles) and although my back was sore it was a doable ride. I will get a new helmet this weekend and give the KLR a good distance ride on pavement, just to see how things feel. I anticipate that all will go well. In order to do my job I must complete an annual Work Capacity Test (WCT). The WCT consists of carrying a 45 lb. weighted vest on a 3 mile course of level terrain in 45 minutes or less - 45 lbs. 3 miles, 45 minutes. If I can do that I can definately handle a few road bumps on the KLR. The WCT is on friday morning. The ride will be Saturday.

Ooohh I'm so excited.
