Never painted plastic before.

As I prepare to do this. My plan is:

1) Wash cowlings with simple green or soap and water.
2) Sand evenly with 80 grit
3) Wash again.
4) Paint with Bedliner
5) Second coat of Bedliner

Any thoughts or suggestions...anything I'm missing?

Much too obvious. You can look very casual huffing Marks-A-Lot markers.

Hardly anyone will notice....

Oh and do you put the Bedliner on both sides or just the outside?

I gotta get some of them Markers.

I suppose you could do both sides, but I'm just doing the outside.

If you were painting, I'd say to give everything a good washdown with rubbing alcohol, but since you're roughing it up with 80 grit paper, I'm afraid the towel you'd use to put the alcohol on would just leave a bunch of fuzz and make matters worse.

Wash it really well to make sure there's no grease or oils on anything.

Before and after photos, please?

How well does the bedliner adhere to the plastic?

I ask only because when I painted my first KLR (http://www.dantesdame.com/bikes_00klr_paint.htm) I made sure to use Krylon's "Fusion" as a base coat, since it's designed to chemically bond with the plastic. It's been almost 3 years and other then some wear from rubbing, the paint has held up wonderfully.

I'm working on painting my second KLR now - it's a slow process, since I don't have the bike registered and I'm in no hurry

Something that you might keep in mind: Paint the underside of all of the plastics flat black Krylon. This will keep the appearance of the black bedliner but will reduce the weight. JAT

You don't know unless you ask.

Paper, you can count on the pics brother. And yeah, it's gonna get pretty roughed up, but I figure since it's bedliner might as well.

DD, I'll post up how it turns out. I'm optimistic, though. Been doing a lot of internet snooping and people have done some cool bedliner jobs on their bikes.
