OIL FILTER HOW To? How do i get to it

Looking to change oil and filter for a trip to NYC this weekend. Is there an easy way to describe how to get to the filter on my KLR 2001.

If this is one of those idiot questions, I am sorry, I am new to the 650.

It's real easy. Drain is underneath. The filter is located on the right side above and to the left of the oil level sight glass. The cover is about the size of a tennis ball and attaches with two bolts. Drain all the oil you can (if it is warm, this will be easier). Take the filter cover off and rock the bike a little to get all the oil out. Make sure you DO NOT THROW AWAY the metal piece that goes through the filter. Put it in the new filter. It will only go in the right way.

-Don't overtighten ANYTHING. The drain plug is not a load bearing bolt and has the crush washer to help seal. The Filter cover seal is made by the rubber gasket, the bolts just hold the cover on.
-Use a new crush washer.
-Rub some clean oil on the rubber gaskets.
-Don't make it harder than it is.

Watch this:

(Not mine)

Fill the oil back up by measuring or by adding slowly until the oil is at the top of the sight glass when the bike is vertical. Check your oil often...if it is low, add more.

Good luck...easy job. The only real pitfalls are overtightening or if you throw that metal piece away.

For what it's worth, I use Emgo or Hifiltro

The only "idiot" question there is, is the one that isn't asked.

We all started from nothing somewhere along the line.

KLR4ever,

thanks man, my bike runs circles around EVERYTHING; Red lights,,shhiiiitt.

My only question now is how do I get flame throwers and old gatling guns attached to the front fender.

I feel back in action with my new bike. Took it through its first swamp test this past week and over heated the bike for like 5 seconds

cheers,

Flibid,
(cool name)

I get the same feeling with the guns n' such. I want to coat the front facing
surfaces with the same rubber paint on the Stealth. That radar absorbing stuff.

There's just about nowhere these things can't go, providing there's at least semi-solid
earth underneath. I go some ridiculous places and love every minute of it. Except of
course when I halfta get off and pull it back out of a tight spot with no turn around room.

Have fun!
