KLR's with bling?

Evenin' fellas. (and ladies)

After owning both on and off road scooters I noticed how plain and unchanged
I'd left the XL and DR but went wild with paint, wax, chrome, etc. on the
Goldwing, HD's, the Nighthawk, and CB 750 over the years.

Now, having been back into the dualsport scene two seasons my
poor bike is suffering identity crises one after the other. In a good way.

The bike looked like a million bucks at the stealership bone stock. It was
black with the green/ silver decal graphics, silver parts and landing gear.

Most of the regulars here who semi-follow it's progress now know I call it the batcycle.
The decals are stripped, and virtually every part that can come off has
indeed come off and been blacked out in gloss, flat, or semi-gloss to match
the frame. We're talking swingarm, forks, the bars, trees, cali[pers, even the oil filter
cover. Everything but the engine and rims to give it some bright contrast.

Then things got stoopid. LOL I put on a chrome headpipe heatshield from
the front pipe off an HD, and now after having the wheels off for snow
tire installation, literally polished the rotors to a mirror shine with the palm
sander and progressively finer grits. (went to 1000 before using paste)
Now there's this black THING sitting out in the drive with silver and chrome
accents, also including lighted license plate bolts. (more for safety n' visibility.)
I hadn't thought in a while how much had actually been done to the bike
until seeing a stocker go by earlier in the week identical to mine in original
trim. Both look awesome in their own ways but I'd never go back. My
bike is now a one-off custom and there's no other scooter on the planet
that looks the same. Even tho it has all the standard mods we perform
here at KLR forum, it's still stock inside. Reliability is still the name of the game
here.

Most of us add panniers, a trunk, engine guards and highway pegs or whatever
makes the bike personalized for each owner's tastes. I'm wondering
if anybody besides myself added anything just cuz it looks cool or am I
completely nutz for customizing a dualsport?

Pics really will follow soon enough. I've taken quite a few, but haven't
gotten around to the Photobucket account or similar hosting site as of yet.

Ride safe and fun,
Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaap

Go to your room, Mark. Don't come out until you can tell us what the right thing to do is.

It's your bike my friend, and you can do WHATEVER you wish to it.

I'm the sort that doesn't add anything unless it has a use, at least in my head.. I don't care how something looks as long as it functions. Hell, even most of the stickers on my bike are partly there to cover up scratches.

But that's me.. It's my bike and I'll do what I wish.. Since the Batcycle is your bike, you should do whatever you wish to it.. If it makes you happy, go for it!!

I'd have to go with Paper on this. To "me" adding bling to a bike where it will most likely be bumped, bruised, or simply broken defies logic. That;s because my KLR is less about riding to the coffee shop and more about making mud pies. However, if customizing and cleaning the bike results in proper maintance, then I say you can't go wrong.

I definitely gave thought to how I wanted it to look. No decals. I like the bedliner on the cowl. The handlebar streamers look awesome...

No doubt CBT, we're all friends and we all love our rides. Even if I lol every time I see the cruiser crowd buying chrome parts for their bikes that never go further than the local bar and will probably be sold with the stock tires still on them.
